Study Purpose/Description
The PACT Online study is a randomised controlled trial of a new online parenting support called PACT Online (Parenting Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) specifically for parents of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities or developmental delays. The aims of the study are to establish if PACT Online is effective in supporting parent-child relationships as well as parent and child mental health, and to better understand how to implement PACT Online in the community.
We are recruiting parents of children (0-10 years old) with a diagnosis of any neurodevelopmental disability (e.g., autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder etc) or a diagnosis of developmental delay or a diagnosis of an increased likelihood of cerebral palsy or autism to participate in the trial.
What’s involved?
As the study is fully online, parents can participate from anywhere in Australia as long as they have internet access.
Participants will be randomly assigned to either receive the PACT Online intervention right away or get put on a wait list to receive the intervention in six months. It involves:
- Free online parenting program for parents of children aged 0-10 years with a neurodevelopmental disability (e.g., cerebral palsy, autism or FASD etc.) or developmental delay
- 12-week online program consisting of one self-paced module per fortnight
- One 30-minute telehealth consultation (via Zoom) per fortnight with clinician
- Completion of assessment items at three time points – before program, after program and at a 6-month follow up
