Study Purpose/Description
This study aims to better understand the changes in rates of health conditions, and in their risk and protective factors, in older Australians. Predicting who will develop cognitive, cardiovascular, and other mental health diseases will help with planning for services and health policies that can create better targeted preventative strategies.
What’s Involved?
If you decide to take part in the research study, you will be asked to:
- Complete a series of questionnaires in your own time using a secure online link or paper questionnaires that we mail to you. The questionnaires will be divided into two surveys of approximately 45 minutes each.
- Complete an in-person assessment that looks at your memory and thinking skills and a brief physical examination with a trained research assistant. The assessment will take place at UNSW in Randwick, or if you prefer, in your home. The in-person assessment can take 3-4 hours to complete, including breaks.
- Provide the name of a family member or close friend whom we can contact to ask questions about your memory, physical health, and daily activities.
Benefits to Participating
Individuals who participate will receive:
- Feedback about their memory and thinking, blood pressure, and mood.
- Free blood tests and feedback about blood and serum results (optional); free MRI (optional).
- Opportunity to participate in other research studies examining balance and falls, hearing and vision, and cardiometabolic health.
- Access free online webinars about healthy ageing and cognition in later life.
