Study Purpose/Description

The research team want to improve quality of life and other health outcomes for older Australians living with osteoarthritis and thinking difficulties. The 12-week includes physical activity, social activity, pain management, and nutrition and lifestyle education. Researchers aim for this program to be adopted nationally into aged-care services.

What’s Involved?

The 12-week Healthy Body & Mind Program involves participants attending the UNSW Lifestyle Clinic in Randwick, twice a week to complete physical activity and healthy lifestyle education. This education will be delivered by an Accredited Exercise Professional, Dietitian and Psychologist.

Participants will also complete several health measures before and after the program and be invited to take part in a focus group to provide feedback and recommendations.

Participants will receive a multidisciplinary evidence-based 12-week Healthy Body & Mind Program free of charge (usual cost for similar services is over $500).

Osteoarthiritis

Recruitment criteria

This study is open to participants who:

  • Are aged 55 years and older,
  • Have a Montreal Cognitive Assessment score of 18-25 indicating mild thinking difficulty,
  • Are living with osteoarthritis, and
  • Can safely undertake study assessments and complete exercise without assistance.

Benefits

Participants will receive a multidisciplinary evidence-based 12-week Healthy Body & Mind Program free of charge (usual cost for similar services is over $500). Participants will be reimbursed with a $50 gift voucher for their time and participation in the focus group (if they choose to take part).
