Goal Setting for Recovery After Stroke or Brain Injury

Researchers from Flinders University want to understand the experiences of goal setting and goal pursuit for people with stroke or brain injury. Researchers also want to hear from the family and carers of people with stroke or brain injury.

Study Purpose/Description

Goal setting is an important part of rehabilitation. Clinicians work with clients to set meaningful goals to achieve during their rehabilitation. This study wants to better understand goal setting and how it can be achieved in practice for people with stroke, their family, and their support network.

This study also aims to gather feedback about a goal-setting app (called RehabChat) which has been designed to support people with stroke or brain injury to set rehabilitation goals and achieve them.

RehabChat was co-designed with people with brain injury, and clinicians. Findings from this project about RehabChat will help guide how RehabChat may be used in the future.

What’s Involved?

Participants are asked to attend one feedback session via video conference. Participants in metropolitan Adelaide also have the option to attend the session in-person. The feedback session will involve:

  1. completing a questionnaire to share more about themselves and their experience with technology:
  2. discuss some semi-structured interview questions about rehabilitation and goal setting.
  3. learn how to use RehabChat and then have some time using RehabChat; and
  4. complete a short questionnaire and interview to share their experiences and perceptions about RehabChat.

A $50 gift card will be provided to each participant after completing the feedback session.
