Study Purpose/Description
The purpose of the project is to identify how common food insecurity is among women aged 18 to 44 living in Victoria, Australia, in the pre-pregnancy period. We also want to explore the factors that affect access to food and what helps or makes it harder for women to have enough food. This information could help identify food insecurity in women of childbearing age and improve support for their nutrition pre-pregnancy, helping them have a happy and healthy pregnancy.
Food insecurity is defined as a person or household not having reliable and consistent access to safe, affordable, and nutritious foods to meet their dietary needs for a healthy life. Food insecurity does not exist in a static state but is considered a spectrum ranging from concerns of running out of food to skipping meals or going hungry because there is not enough food available.
What’s Involved?
Your participation in this project will involve completing a survey. This will take approximately 15 minutes. The survey can be completed at any time and location that is convenient for you.
The questions will cover topics like your household situation, access to food, pregnancy planning, and community and healthcare provider engagement. At the end of the survey, there will be an option to select whether you would like to receive a summary of the overall results and go into the draw to receive 1 of 3 $100 vouchers.
The survey questions are designed to identify information surrounding food insecurity from the point of view of women aged 18 to 44 living in Victoria, Australia, who hope to become pregnant. If you feel uncomfortable at any time, you are free to take a break or stop the survey
