Study Purpose/Description

Insomnia is an under-recognised and poorly treated sleep disorder that affects a significant proportion of older Australians. You are invited to take part in an online research study using a smartphone mobile application (Sleepfix) to improve sleep and cognitive function.

Researchers from The Woolcock Institute have developed Sleepfix to treat insomnia using Sleep Consolidation Therapy (SCT). SCT works to improve the balance between actual sleep time and the total amount of time spent in bed including time spent awake and asleep.

What’s Involved?

This study is entirely online, with no in-person visits required.

Participants will be randomised into either:

  • The treatment group which will gain immediate access to the SleepFix mobile application, or
  • The waitlist control group who gain access to three bi-weekly online sleep education material.

All participants in the control group will gain access to the SleepFix app at the end of their control period.

Recruitment criteria

You may be eligible to participate in this study if you:

  • Are aged 50 or older
  • Have insomnia
  • Have self-reported memory complaints
  • Have access to a smartphone
