Study Purpose/Description
- This study is an online survey.
- We want to understand the link between:
- chronic illness/conditions
- feeling lonely
- being socially isolated (not having many social connections).
- You may be asked to do this survey once a year for 4 years.
- The goal is to find ways to reduce loneliness for people with chronic illnesses/conditions.
What’s Involved?
- Consent form – say yes if you want to join.
- Short check questions (about 5 minutes) – to see if the study is right for you.
- Main survey (30–45 minutes) – questions about your:
- health
- daily life
- mood
- social connections
- Contact details – so we can send you follow-up surveys and your gift card.
You can:
- take breaks while doing the survey (just keep your browser open).
- only use one device (e.g., laptop, tablet, or phone) to finish the survey.
- not use Incognito mode, as it will not save your answers if you close it.
In years 2, 3, and 4, you will get a $20 electronic gift card when you finish the survey (subject to checks of survey completion). There is no payment for year 1.
If you would prefer to complete the survey via post, please email us at olderadults.research@mq.edu.au and we can arrange this.
