Researchers from the University of Sydney are looking for adults with lower back pain to participate in this innovative study which will use text messages to support recovery.

Study description/purpose 

Low back pain is the greatest cause of disability worldwide and associated with great societal and economic burden. Its economic burden is equivalent to the burden of other chronic non-communicable diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Researchers are looking for adults with a current episode of low back pain that is causing moderate interference with their everyday life and who have a mobile phone that can receive text messages.

What’s involved

Participants will be randomised to one of the two groups which will receive different volumes of text messages in different formats. The text messages will provide education and self-management strategies. Participation will involve receiving text messages and completing online surveys.

  • Adults with current episodes of moderate low back pain
