Mapping the platelet phenotype

This research study is looking at how platelets change with age and with coronary artery disease (CAD).

Study Purpose/Description

This study aims to examine how platelets change with age and with coronary artery disease (CAD). Previous research has shown that platelets from older people respond differently to younger people. However, it is not known if this is the same in people with coronary artery disease. To study this, we need to compare responses in younger (<50 years) and older (>70 years) people both without and with coronary disease.

What’s involved?

Participants will have a one-off blood sample taken from them (up to 80 mL of blood). This blood sample will be taken from a vein in their arm. The blood sample will be collected at Concord Repatriation General Hospital. There will be no further visits or follow-up study procedures after that. Medical history directly related to the study question will be recorded for study purposes and if relevant or available may also be taken from your medical records. The total time taken at the hospital should be approximately 45-60 minutes.
