Pelvic Pain in Men

Researchers from The University of Queensland want to better understand pelvic pain in men. Your participation will offer new insight into pelvic pain and has the potential to provide a new foundation for future clinical trials that can ultimately improve clinical management.

Study Purpose/Description

Pain around the genitals and pelvic area affects one man out of ten. This pain may be caused by a range of mechanisms including how the brain controls the muscles of the pelvic floor.

The objectives of this research are:

  1. to test the brain’s control of the pelvic floor muscles between men with and without pelvic pain,
  2. to explore the relationships between this pathway and other outcomes such as pain sensitivity, and
  3. to determine whether measures are consistent across several days.

What’s involved?

You will be asked to complete online questionnaires and to attend two assessment sessions in person involving standard tests at The University of Queensland on St Lucia Campus in Brisbane.

Participants will receive compensation of $75 per session.
